How to Download Instagram Videos (Free, HD, No Watermark)

· 7 min read

Instagram is full of videos worth keeping: tutorials, recipes, travel clips, concert moments, or your own posts. But Instagram has no “save to device” button for other people’s videos. The built-in Save option only bookmarks a post inside the app, and that copy disappears if the creator deletes it.

The good news: you can download Instagram videos to any phone or computer in a few seconds, in HD, without a watermark and without installing anything. This guide shows you exactly how, device by device.

Why People Download Instagram Videos

There are plenty of good reasons to keep a real video file instead of a bookmark:

  • Watch offline. Save videos before a flight, a commute or anywhere with a weak signal.
  • Keep what matters. Posts get deleted, accounts go private, and links break. A downloaded file stays yours to watch.
  • Back up your own content. If you post on Instagram, downloading your videos is an easy way to keep a copy outside the app.
  • Save tutorials for later. Workout routines, recipes and how-to clips are easier to follow when you can pause and replay them without scrolling your feed.
  • Share with people who aren’t on Instagram. Send a clip to family over WhatsApp or email without asking them to sign up.

A note on copyright: downloading a video for personal, offline viewing is generally fine, but the content still belongs to its creator. Don’t re-upload someone else’s video as your own, sell it, or use it commercially without permission. If you want to share it publicly, ask the creator and give them credit.

How to Download Instagram Videos on iPhone

You don’t need an app on iPhone. Safari can download files on its own, and IGSaver works right in the browser:

  1. Copy the video link. In the Instagram app, tap the share icon (paper plane) under the video, or the three dots (⋯), and choose Copy link.
  2. Open IGSaver in Safari. Go to igsaver.app.
  3. Paste the link. Tap the Paste button in the box. The preview loads automatically.
  4. Tap MP4 HD. When Safari asks whether you want to download the file, tap Download.
  5. Find the file. Open the Files app and go to Downloads.
  6. Save it to Photos. Tap the video, then tap Share → Save Video. It now appears in your camera roll like any other video.

Tip: you can also tap the small download arrow in Safari’s address bar to see your recent downloads. This method works the same on iPad.

If Safari plays the video instead of downloading it

On some older versions of iOS, Safari may open the video in a player instead of saving it. If that happens, go back to IGSaver, press and hold the MP4 HD button, and choose Download Linked File. The video then goes to your Downloads folder as usual. Updating your iPhone to the latest iOS version also fixes this, and makes downloads faster to find.

How to Download Instagram Videos on Android

Android is even simpler, because downloaded videos show up in your gallery automatically:

  1. Copy the link from the Instagram app (share icon or ⋯ → Copy link).
  2. Open your browser. Chrome, Samsung Internet, Firefox or any other browser works. Go to igsaver.app.
  3. Paste the link into the box and wait a second for the preview.
  4. Tap MP4 HD. The video downloads to your Downloads folder.

Within a few seconds, the video appears in Google Photos or your phone’s gallery app. If you can’t find it, open your Files app and look in Downloads. This works on every Android phone, including Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus and Pixel.

How to Download Instagram Videos on PC / Mac

On a computer, the process is the same in every browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

  1. Open the video on instagram.com and copy the address from the browser’s address bar. You can also click the three dots (⋯) on the post and choose Copy link.
  2. Open a new tab and go to igsaver.app.
  3. Paste the link with Ctrl+V (Windows) or ⌘+V (Mac).
  4. Click MP4 HD. The file saves to your Downloads folder.

To open your downloads quickly, press Ctrl+J in Chrome or Edge on Windows, or ⌥⌘L in Safari on Mac. From there you can drag the video into a folder, a video editor or a presentation.

Which format should I choose?

After you paste a link, IGSaver usually offers up to three files. Here’s how to pick:

  • MP4 HD is the best choice in most cases. It’s the highest quality Instagram offers, perfect for watching on a laptop, a TV or a tablet, or for editing.
  • MP4 SD is a smaller file. Choose it if you’re on mobile data, your phone is almost full, or you only need to share the clip in a chat app, where it will be compressed anyway.
  • Audio (M4A) keeps only the soundtrack. It’s ideal for saving a song, a podcast clip or a voice-over. M4A plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac without any extra app.

Download Private vs Public Instagram Videos

IGSaver works with any video from a public Instagram account: regular video posts, reels and public stories while they are still live.

It does not work with private accounts. When an account is private, only its approved followers can see its posts, and Instagram protects that content. IGSaver respects this: if you paste a link to a private video, you’ll see a clear message saying the content is private instead of a download link. If you follow the account and can see the post, try our private post downloader.

A few other situations produce a similar message:

  • The post has been deleted or archived by its owner.
  • The link is incomplete, for example if part of it was cut off while copying.
  • The account has age or region restrictions on that post.

If a video you can see in the app won’t download, check that the account is public and try copying the link again.

Why Use IGSaver?

There are many Instagram downloaders out there, and a lot of them are covered in pop-ups, fake download buttons and sign-up walls. IGSaver was built to be the opposite:

  • HD quality. You always get the best quality Instagram offers for that video, usually 720p or 1080p, plus an SD option for smaller files and an audio-only version.
  • No watermark. Nothing is added to your video: no logo, no end screen.
  • No account needed. You never sign up, and you never give anyone your Instagram password.
  • Free. No subscription and no “premium” tier holding back HD downloads.
  • Private by design. We don’t store the videos you download or the links you paste.
  • Works everywhere. iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, in English, French and Arabic.

Downloading vs. screen recording

Many people simply screen-record Instagram videos. It works, but the result is worse in every way: your status bar, notifications and Instagram’s buttons end up in the video, the picture is often cropped or blurry, and the sound can drift out of sync. You also have to watch the whole video in real time while it records. Downloading the file takes a few seconds and gives you a clean video at full resolution, with perfect sound.
